More About Naturopathy

What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a holistic approach to health that looks beyond symptoms to uncover and treat the root cause of illness. Rather than simply managing what’s wrong, naturopathic medicine works with your body’s innate ability to heal — using evidence-informed, natural therapies to restore balance and build lasting wellness.

At our Brunswick clinic, our naturopaths draw on a wide range of tools including herbal medicine, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, and diagnostic testing — alongside specialised treatments like colonic irrigation and colonic infusions — to create a truly personalised health plan that works for you.

How do we work with our clients?

Every journey at Naturopathy Melbourne begins with a thorough one-on-one consultation. We take the time to understand your full health history, current symptoms, lifestyle, diet, and goals — because the more we know about you, the more effective your care will be.

Where needed, we go deeper with comprehensive diagnostic testing — including pathology, functional gut testing, hormone panels, and more. We take the guesswork out of your health so we can build a clear and accurate picture of what’s really going on.

We believe you deserve to fully understand your own health. We walk you through your results in plain language, explain what’s driving your symptoms, and present a clear, personalised plan of action — no jargon, no confusion.

Your treatment plan is tailored specifically to you — drawing on herbal medicine, clinical nutrition, dietary planning, lifestyle medicine and targeted supplementation to address the root cause of your health concerns.

Your health is a journey, not a single appointment. We monitor your progress, adjust your treatment plan as needed, and provide ongoing support every step of the way — because lasting results take time and consistency.

We are here to guide, educate, and empower — never to pressure. Every recommendation we make is offered with full transparency, and every decision about your health remains yours. We are simply here to give you the very best natural options available.

Carmen Farrugia

Naturopath

Meet Carmen Farrugia — Fertility & Pregnancy Naturopath, Midwife & Registered Nurse

Carmen’s clinical passion lies in supporting women and couples through every stage of their reproductive journey — from pre-conception planning and natural fertility support to IVF assistance, pregnancy care, and the postnatal period. She also works extensively with menstrual disorders, PCOS, menopause, and the anxiety and depression that so often accompany hormonal health challenges.

Her approach is deeply individual. Carmen takes the time to thoroughly investigate the underlying factors contributing to your health concerns — considering your personal goals, circumstances, and genetics before crafting a treatment plan that draws on nutrition, herbal medicine, dietary planning, lifestyle medicine, pathology testing, and stress management.

Beyond her clinical work, Carmen is a respected educator and author. She has developed webinars for health practitioners on pre and post-conception care, mentored graduate midwives and student naturopaths, and authored a widely loved pregnancy eBook — gifted to every one of her patients as part of their care.

Her contributions to the Royal Women’s Hospital include developing evidence-based antenatal guidelines, implementing triage processes for pregnant women, shaping team midwifery models, and establishing mentoring programs for graduate nurses — a testament to the exemplary standard of care she brings to everything she does.

We are truly fortunate to have a practitioner of Carmen’s calibre at Naturopathy Melbourne.

Jess Pensa

Naturopath

Meet Jessica Pensa — Thyroid, Hormonal & Acne Naturopath

Jessica Pensa is a passionate and highly skilled naturopath with a special focus on the conditions that conventional medicine so often struggles to fully address — thyroid disorders, hormonal imbalances, autoimmune conditions, and hormonal acne.

Holding a four-year Bachelor of Health Science in Naturopathy, Jess brings both academic rigour and genuine clinical dedication to every consultation. Her approach is rooted in one core belief: that lasting health comes from understanding the whole person — not just managing their symptoms.

Her clinical expertise centres on the endocrine system, with a particular focus on thyroid and autoimmune conditions, hormonal imbalances, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and fertility concerns. Jess is especially passionate about skin health, recognising that acne and other skin conditions are frequently a reflection of deeper hormonal and gut imbalances. Rather than defaulting to antibiotics or conventional treatments, she offers natural, targeted skin protocols that address the root cause — with results that speak for themselves.

Jess takes a thoroughly individualised approach to care, drawing on a wide range of naturopathic testing and analysis to build a clear and accurate picture of each client’s health. From there, she crafts personalised treatment plans that incorporate advanced herbal medicine, nutritional therapeutics, dietary planning, and lifestyle medicine — always working in harmony with the body’s own healing intelligence.

Her training in Integrative Complementary Medicine also means she works collaboratively alongside GPs and specialists, ensuring her clients receive the very best of both natural and conventional care.

Jess is a proud member of the Australian Natural Therapist Association (ANTA) and is committed to delivering health solutions that are not just effective — but enduring.

How We’re Different

There’s no shortage of health clinics out there — but finding one that truly listens, looks at the whole picture, and offers the tools to match is another story.

Too many people spend years cycling through appointments, collecting referrals, and managing symptoms — without ever getting to the root of what’s actually wrong. They leave consultations feeling rushed, unheard, and no closer to real answers. We built Naturopathy Melbourne because we believe there is a better way.

Our Brunswick clinic was founded on the principle that every person deserves genuinely personalised, unhurried, and evidence-informed natural healthcare. Not a one-size-fits-all supplement protocol. Not a 15-minute tick-box consultation. Real, considered, whole-person care from practitioners who are as invested in your health as you are.

Every consultation at Naturopathy Melbourne is led by a fully qualified naturopath with the training, experience, and clinical depth to understand your health at a level that goes far beyond surface symptoms.

Our practitioners hold advanced qualifications in naturopathy, nutrition, and specialised fields including fertility, reproductive health, thyroid and hormonal health, colonic hydrotherapy, and diagnostic testing. Between them, they bring decades of combined clinical experience — as well as backgrounds in nursing, midwifery, and allied health — giving our clients access to a truly rare breadth of knowledge under one roof.

But qualifications alone don’t define great care. What sets our practitioners apart is the genuine commitment they bring to every single consultation. We don’t do rushed appointments. We don’t do generic protocols. And we don’t send you away with a one-size-fits-all supplement plan that ignores everything that makes you unique.

We take the time to understand your full health history, your lifestyle, your stress load, your relationships with food, your sleep, your goals, and the things that have and haven’t worked for you before. Only then do we begin to build a picture of what your body truly needs — and a plan that is designed specifically for you.

Because at Naturopathy Melbourne, we believe that the depth of the listening determines the quality of the care. And we are here to listen properly.

We take the guesswork out of your health. With access to comprehensive diagnostic testing — including functional gut testing, hormone panels, pathology, microbiome analysis, and more — we can identify what’s really going on beneath the surface, giving you clarity and a clear path forward.

No two people are the same, and neither are our treatment plans. Everything we recommend is tailored specifically to you — your body, your health history, and your goals.

We’re here to make you feel genuinely cared for, properly supported, and confident in your health journey every step of the way.

We prioritise clear, compassionate communication, ensuring you understand every aspect of the treatment and feel supported throughout your wellness journey

Got Questions About Naturopathy?

You’re not the only one! We’ve answered the most common questions about colonic hydrotherapy, from what to expect to how safe it really is. We only use the closed colonic system, which is practitioner-led and hygienically sealed for your comfort and safety.
